Silent Auction

AATA's first silent auction, at our Vienna conference in 2004, was such a huge success (and very popular with attendees) that is has become an annual tradition!

Each year the items donated vary so the "offerings" are never quite the same.  Items have ranged from a wooden puzzle of Austria and a stuffed bear to an original drawing and watercolor painting to airplane models and two worldwide airline tickets. We've had “Sheep Dip” (no, you don’t pour it on sheep . . . you drink it!) and Kentucky Bourbon, a Dallas Cowboy's Sweatshirt and black cowboy hat, bottles of wine and much more.  Of course, the most popular are the airline tickets and the huge aircraft models which always results in a frenzy of frantic bidding at the last minute!

So, as we plan for the Dresden Conference, don't be left out!  What can you bring along or send to Dresden that can be put up for auction?  Don’t be afraid to get creative!  It's for a very worthy cause.

How does it work?  Items donated will be displayed during the meeting along with a bid sheet. All bidders will write down their bids on the bid sheet. At the auction’s close, the highest bid on the sheet will buy and take home the item.

You can get involved in one or two ways:

1. Contribute something of value for auction. It can be something from your company (such as a logo piece of apparel, mug, or similar item) OR something unique from your area of the world (a craft item, painting, jewelry, etc.) OR a voucher (certificate) redeemable for "goods". In other words anything of value that will make $$’s for a worthy cause, the AATA. One requirement, though, is that the item needs to be easily transportable since you will have to bring it with you to the conference and the highest bidder will be taking it home. The donors will be given credit for their contributions in the post conference newsletter.

2. The second way to be involved is to be one of the bidders and, if successful, take home something for you or a gift for someone else; without buying it at the airport!

But in order to have a silent auction, we need to have items to auction!  So please send an email as soon as possible to Michael_Kuntz@Merck.com, describing what you are willing to donate. If you can forward a brief summary and a photo, we'll post it on-line so everyone can see what has been donated and by whom.

Example of items that have been donated (and won) in previous Silent Auctions:

Martinair Body Warmer

777 model airplane
hand painted by Peter Max

Chilean Wine

Silver Chilean Cowboy Spurs

MD-11 FedEx Model Airplane

Jockey Tray

BBQ Set

PLEASE NOTE!

This year the Silent Auction will close at the end of the conference (on Wed., May 21) and the winning items
will be awarded
between 15:00-16:00 hrs.  This allows more time for bidding throughout the conference!
