Cocktail Reception

 

 The reception was a perfect opportunity to catch up with the old friends and acquaintances
 and to meet and make new ones. 


 

 

Annual Awards Dinner
 

Tuesday evening Awards Dinner in the historic domed Koepelkerk at the Renaissance Hotel. 
 

 

Entertainment

The troupe of typical Dutch wooden shoe dancers were next on the agenda.
These dancers in their native costumes added much to the experience of being in Amsterdam.
They were certainly enjoyed by all present!


 

Annual Awards Ceremony

 

Each year, AATA recognizes those that have made outstanding contributions to the animal
transportation industry internationally.  This year's service award recipients represent the elite
in this specialized industry and well deserved to be acknowledged and honored
during AATA's Annual Award Dinner.

This year's Public Service Award recipient was the American Veterinary Medical Association's Veterinary Medical Assistance Teams (VMAT). This was received in recognition for their outstanding contribution to the humane rescue of animals in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, Fall 2005. The award was accepted by Dr. Henry Childers and Ms. Christy Whitelaw, RVT.

The International Award presented to Dr. Gordon Doonan, Chief Humane Transportation/Canadian Food Inspection Agency, in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the welfare of animals in international commerce. This award was presented by Ms. Carolyn Young.

The Animal Welfare Award, which is awarded in recognition of the dedicated zoo staff who selflessly risked their own safety to rescue and protect animals during the height and in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina was received by Mr. Daniel Maloney on behalf of the Audubon Zoo / Audubon Nature Institute, New Orleans, Louisiana, USA.

Mr. Werner Burghardt received the Robert D. Campbell Memorial Award in recognition of his dedication, influence and determination in improving transport conditions for animals transported by air during his years with Lufthansa Cargo prior to his retirement. The award was presented by Ms. Rebecca McNeil.

The President's Award went to Mr. Joseph N. Santarelli, Sr. of Mersant Intenational, Ltd. in recognition of his dedicated support of the AATA wth his time, treasure and talents over many years. The award was presented by Dr. George Winegar and accepted by his son's, Joseph Santarelli Jr. and Chris Santarelli.

The Director's Award was presented to Ms. Debby van Son, Secretary Saveetra / Transport en Logistiek Nederland. Mr. Tim Harris presented the award in recognition of her exceptional efforts on behalf of AATA's Amsterdam Conference and organizational support to the European road transport industry.
